1/700 IJN Aircraft Carrier Zuikaku Tamiya Water Line #31214 Factory Sealed NISB

Description: I would like to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. The Zuikaku was the second ship of the two-ship Shokaku class of Fleet Aircraft Carriers that participated in almost every key battle in the Pacific. Commissioned in September 1941, she was at the front lines for Pearl Harbor, Battle of the Coral Sea, Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, Battle of the Philippines Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, where she met her end by naval air attack in October 1944. This kit shows her in the late war configuration. As you would expect, there are plenty of these kits listed on eBay (mostly from distant overseas sellers), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this interesting model: The Tamiya website (Japanese version) has a photo of an expertly finished model and provides the following information about the subject: Carrying the weight of veterans on the flight deck Completed in September 16 (1941) as the second ship of the Shokaku-class aircraft carrier. As an ideal aircraft carrier with high speed power, powerful anti-aircraft armament, and the capacity to carry more than 80 carrier-based aircraft, this is a plastic model assembly kit of Zuikaku, which continued to fight until it was sunk off the coast of Leyte in October 19 (1944). In contrast to Shokaku, which was recreated at the start of the war, Zuikaku modeled its appearance at the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the last battle of the Japan Navy task force. Enhanced anti-aircraft armament such as anti-aircraft machine guns, high-angle guns, and rocket artillery convey the fierce air battles at the end of the war. I'm also looking forward to the display of a wide variety of carrier-based aircraft, such as the Zero Fighter Type 52, the Comet carrier-based bomber, and the reconnaissance aircraft Saiun, lined up on the deck. Scalemates.com shows that this is a 1993 release based on the new tooling of the same year that has been the basis of six releases across the Tamiya and Aoshima brands. They provide a link to download the complete 4-page instruction set. They show the box art and provide a few links to a review, aftermarket parts, references and galleries of Shokaku-class carrier projects. There was a thorough In-Box Review anonymously posted on the German-language modellmarine.de site that starts with an interesting history of the Zuikaku. There are about two dozen photos to show the sprues, hull parts, instructions and decals. The author felt that this is one of Tamiya’s best carrier kits, but due to its age, the details have softened. His summary contains: “you can see the age of the Tamiya kits from the shapes. Technically not quite up to date anymore, it should still be possible to build a decent model. Certainly, more components would have been good, which are presented by Tamiya as details of larger parts.” This kit is in a compact box about 15” x 5” x 2”. As you can see from the pictures, the kit has taken a few slight dings in shipping, but is still sealed with tape strips, so I consider it factory sealed and probably gift-ready. This item contains highly detailed parts and decals to make a waterline hull model of this iconic IJN Aircraft Carrier with a variety of aircraft, including A6M5c Zeros, D4Y Judys and B6N Jills. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays winning bid plus, for a limited time, I am offering this large kit with $8 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
