Description: For your consideration is this beautiful Benge trumpet, from approximately 1977. This is a Claude Gordon model (note the "CG"stamped on the valves). The body of the horn is GOLD PLATED body (not lacquer!) and in awesome condition. There is a tiny ding on the lead pipe (see photo), but that's the only issue I can find. The valves are great, and all the slides move. This is a large bore trumpet. A little internet research lists it as .468 at the valve block. I measured the bore at the 1st and 2nd valve slides with my awesome Harbor Freight digital caliper (eye roll!) and came up with .470. Let's talk about the bell. This horn originally had a Number 2 bell, as indicated by the ferrule with the "2" stamped on it. However, the previous owner has had the bell replaced with a silver-plated bell that was made by Benge sometime between 1955 and 1970. Sorry, I don't know the particular bell model, but I would say it is several years older than the body. The bell is in great condition, and is highly engraved, both on the outside and along the inside rim. I've seen a lot of Benge trumpets in my day, but never one engraved like this! This trumpet is both a professional instrument and a work of art! This trumpet was an estate find, and it did not include a case, so I've included this wooden and cloth zippered case. To be honest, the case is not quite big enough to hold a cup mute, but it is BRAND NEW! A little history...Eldon Benge made trumpets in Burbank, California, and later Los Angeles. His instruments were very popular among studio musicians in the 1960s and 1970s. Claude Gordon was a popular studio musician and trumpet teacher in the Los Angeles area, and Benge worked with him to build a line of trumpets. The Benge company was later absorbed into the King Instrument Company. When King moved production to Ohio, a lot of the original Benge tooling remained in California and fell into the hands of Zig Kanstul (who also made fine professional trumpets, including some based on Benge designs). When Zig closed shop, the bulk of the Benge tooling was purchased by B.A.C. Musical Instruments of Kansas City, and they currently produce a"Benge-Kansas City" model trumpet. The point is, the folks at B.A.C.are probably as knowledgeable about Benge trumpets as anyone. I had a chance to present this horn to them, and they emphatically said they had never seen a Benge like this before. It is truly one of a kind! Should you decide this is the horn for you, I'll pay for shipping to anywhere in the continental U.S. Sorry, no foreign shipping. Instrument sold "as is." No returns.
