Description: Available is this seldom seen Model 1859 United States Navy boarding axe carrier or sheath as issued at the Boston Navy Yard in the early 1860's. The dark leather carrier is made of black bridle leather. It measures approximately 7 ¾ inches wide and about 6 ¼ inches tall at its highest point. It is stamped, "US.N.Y./BOSTON" on two lines. The brass finial, strap securing the axe and the belt strap or loop are all present. The holder is in very good condition for being 165 years old. The leather is supple, and the strap and loop are intact. The stitching is also completely present. There is some light crazing as can be seen in the photos. There is essentially no flaking. This is certainly a high-end example. Please be sure to check out the large photos I have posted and judge the condition for yourself. U.S. buyer agrees to pay $9.95 shipping from zip code 82082.
