Description: Listed ceramics artist Nancy Kibens created this monumental pottery vase in 1993. Raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nancy lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where she made her Japanese-inspired art sculptures. She has exhibited in shows and galleries and shows in Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Maryland. The photo we included shows Nancy at a 1979 Art Fair in St. Louis; she won the top award for pottery. This sculptural piece stands 17 1/2 inches tall, measures 12 inches wide at the top and 7 1/2 inches wide at the bottom and weighs a hefty 8 3/4 pounds. The exterior is covered in a matte glaze that's predominantly a deep olive green with areas of tan and rust. The speckled inner glaze is pale gray blue with blotches and drips of rust. Each side has two protruding round knobs, a pierced hole and incised lines. The shape starts wide at the top, curves down to an oval pointed base; the two sides are open at the top and join each other about 6 inches down. The bottom is hand signed "Kibens 93." Works by this artist do not often come up for sale and this is a particularly stunning example. © PrimpingYourHome.com PYH 5085
